Frequently Asked Questions

  • Winter Park Crew offers high school men’s rowing, high school women’s rowing, and middle school men’s and women’s rowing. Programs serve new and experienced rowers in 6th - 12th grade.

  • Winter Park Crew trains on Lake Howell in Casselberry, Florida. Practice schedules vary by team and season, with competitive high school rowers typically training 5-6 days each week and Middle School athletes training 3-4 days a week. Detailed practice schedules are provided in the registration process.

  • Scholastic High School Membership
    Winter Park Crew has been a scholastic rowing program for 65 years and we are committed to providing Winter Park High School (WPHS) student-athletes with a premier scholastic rowing experience, competing for FSRA and SRAA championships while continuing one of Florida's most successful scholastic rowing traditions.

    Youth High School Membership Pathway
    Eligible athletes who do not attend or plan to attend WPHS may join through our Youth membership pathway. Youth members train year-round alongside the team, receive the same coaching and athlete development opportunities, and compete in eligible non-scholastic regattas. They are not eligible to compete in FSRA or SRAA scholastic regattas or championships in the spring.

    Middle School Membership
    Winter Park Crew welcomes both scholastic-eligible and youth-eligible middle school athletes.

    Winter Park Crew is an independent rowing organization and not an official sport of Winter Park High School or Orange County Public Schools.

  • To get started, complete this interest form for our High School Men’s, High School Women’s, or Middle School rowing programs. A member of our team will follow up with registration details and next steps for the upcoming season.

  • Yes. Many of our athletes participate in other sports and activities in both middle and high school. However, it should be noted that competitive High School rowing requires a significant commitment to practices and regattas, so athletes should discuss potential scheduling conflicts with their coach.

  • High School Rowing

    The annual cost of participation includes a one-time registration fee and monthly dues. Registration is $600 for first-year athletes (includes required team gear) and $500 for returning athletes, and includes the first month’s dues. Monthly dues are $305 per month from September through May. Additional regatta and travel fees apply for athletes who participate in competitions and vary based on the events attended. Annual fundraising may offset a portion of travel expenses for select regattas.

    Middle School Rowing

    The annual cost of participation includes a one-time registration fee of $290, which includes the first month’s dues. Monthly dues are $190 per month for the Girls Middle School program (September–April). Boys Middle School dues are $190 per month from September through December and $240 per month from January through May. Additional fees may apply for regattas and other team activities.

    Monthly dues support coaching, equipment and boat maintenance, uniforms, team activities, and other team operating expenses.

    Registration fees include the athlete’s first month of dues and support annual onboarding costs, including required team gear for first-year high school athletes.

  • Yes. The Winter Park Crew Angel Fund provides needs-based financial assistance to athletes and families experiencing financial hardship who demonstrate a strong commitment to the sport of rowing and Winter Park Crew. The Angel Fund is intended to supplement, not replace, a family’s investment in participation.

    Families seeking assistance must complete an Angel Fund application. Awards are based on demonstrated financial need, athlete commitment, family partnership, and available funding.

  • Winter Park Crew is an independent not-for-profit rowing organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our experienced professional coaches lead athlete training, development, and competition, while operating in accordance with USRowing safety and compliance standards and competes in USRowing, Florida Scholastic Rowing Association (FSRA), and Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) sanctioned events.

  • Winter Park Crew is supported by an active community of families and volunteers. Parents help with regattas, events, fundraising, travel, facilities, and other team activities, with volunteer opportunities available throughout the year to fit different schedules and skills.
